Dulwich Ballet School

Dulwich Ballet School (DBS) was established in 1990 by Sally-Ann Hodge. In its early days the school specialised in ballet training only, but over the years has taken pride in extending the range of dance styles covered to include Tap, Modern, Contemporary, Body Conditioning and specialist Pointe Work classes, for all ages and abilities.

Sally-Ann trained at the College of the Royal Academy of Dance (RAD) and is a fully qualified and registered teacher of the RAD. She has been teaching for over 30 years and established a Ballet School in Dulwich in 1990. Following graduation, she was a member of a touring Ballet Company based in Germany for several years, before returning to the UK to both teach in local schools and start her own Ballet School.

We have a variety of classes available for all age groups and abilities and offer classes in Ballet, Tap, Modern, Contemporary, Pointe Work and Body Conditioning. Students will be trained in the RAD syllabus from introductory level through to Grade 8 with the opportunity for talented students to take vocational classes with the option to take examinations and be part of a production of a full length Ballet.

We start with Introductory, moving onto Pre-Primary & Pre-Primary exam and then eventually children from the age of 6 can start to formally learn the basic technique in the Primary class. More details below. Introductory ballet class for children aged from nearly 3 to 4 years. They are lively and structured classes to introduce children to ballet in a fun way.

The Grades listed below are fun and energetic with new combinations of steps, which challenge the dancer and provide them with a good basic knowledge of Ballet Technique. These classes follow the RAD Grade 1 - 3 ballet syllabus & prepare the children for an examination or class award. This syllabus was updated recently and now allows the students to dance to recorded orchestral music and it is inspiring in its approach.
