Iken Canoe
Due to on-going planning permission issues, availability is only for a limited number of Canadian canoes, and specifically around high tide (a time which varies each day). Kayaks, paddleboards or any other craft are not currently available but please keep referring to the website for updates.

We hope this situation resolves itself soon and we can get back to offering a normal service, and we are very sorry for the inconvenience this has caused our customers.People cannot launch their own canoes, kayaks or paddleboards at Iken Canoe whether they are hiring from us or not, due to insurance protocols.

Where to Paddle
Report
Your adventure on the water with Iken Canoe is dependent on the tide direction on the day of hire. However, a typical session will include a paddle up the winding river to Snape Bridge (and refreshments at the Plough & Sail pub and Snape Maltings if desired!) before returning back to Iken again.

Alternatively, paddlers can continue down river where the estuary widens, past historic St Botolp's Iken Church, Blackheath mansion and Yarn Hill wood, and even as far as a lovely beach (very tide dependent). We will advise you on the best option for you on the day and in the time you have available.
Iken Sail
Report
If you are a competent sailor, with experience of handling this size of boat (22' 6 with bowsprit), then she is available for half or full day charter within the estuary for up to four people max (no dogs permitted). We can 'show you the ropes' regarding the gaff rig, and she comes complete with tanned-coloured main and jib sails, a 6hp Mariner outboard engine and a large cushioned cockpit seating area.
FAQs
Report
In warm weather, loose clothing i.e. t-shirts, trainers or flip flops (no Wellington boots). Please be aware when the sun is out it could reflect off the water making it hot, so dress accordingly to minimise risk of sunburn (bring a hat and sun tan lotion). Weather conditions can change very quickly during the hire period and customers should also be prepared for cooler conditions by bringing fleeces etc.

You can also email us at info@ikencanoe.co.uk, but it's best to call us to make a booking to discuss types of boat and times. From Snape, go through Snape village, over Snape bridge (with Snape Maltings and the Plough & Sail pub on your left) and fork immediately left on the B1084 signed to Iken and Orford.
