Services
Furniture conservation
Specialist conservation of historic wooden furniture using traditional methods and materials. We carefully assess each piece to determine appropriate restoration techniques while maintaining original integrity. Our process includes structural repairs, surface cleaning, and finish restoration, ensuring both aesthetic and functional longevity for cherished heirlooms.
Seat weaving
Traditional seat weaving services for cane, rush, seagrass, and Danish cord seating. We employ both hand-woven and machine-made techniques to match original specifications. Our expertise includes repairing damaged sections or complete seat replacements, restoring both comfort and historical accuracy to period furniture.
Woodturning
Precision woodturning for replacement components and custom pieces. Using traditional lathes, we recreate missing or damaged parts like drawer knobs, finials, and legs. Our work matches original timber and profiles exactly, with subtle ageing techniques to ensure seamless integration with antique furniture.
French polishing
Authentic French polishing techniques for restoring high-quality wood finishes. This meticulous process enhances grain patterns while protecting surfaces. We use shellac-based finishes applied in multiple thin layers, achieving the same lustrous results found on original antique furniture surfaces.
Carving repair
Detailed carving restoration for damaged ornamental woodwork. We specialise in replicating intricate patterns from Georgian and Regency periods. Using hand tools and traditional methods, our repairs maintain historical accuracy while preserving the artistic integrity of decorative furniture elements.

Stuart did a wonderful job of restoring our smokers bow chair. It was made by my great, great, grandfather, so meant a lot to us as a family and I really would not have entrusted so loved a piece to anyone other than Stuart. He had to replace one leg entirely and although it is a rather complex shape, he has done this so expertly, including matching in the colour, that it is totally seamless and solid as a rock, meaning it can be passed on through the family for many more generations. We are delighted with it.
