Thorndon Park Golf Club
Welcome to the Thorndon Park Golf Club website, our guide for members and visitors to the premier course and club in Essex. Our course is a classic design from 1920 by Harry Shapland Colt, one of the greatest golf architects.

In 240 acres of an ancient deer park, he created a challenging course - sensitively lengthened over the years - for players of all standards, with the Palladian mansion of Thorndon Hall as the magnificent backdrop to the final hole. Here, little more than two miles from the M25, is a place of tranquility, bounded by a vast country park, with mighty oaks adding their grandeur alongside the fairways and greens.

History
Report
Thorndon Park Golf Club's course was created in 1920 on a deer park dating back to the 1580s. The deer park, already rich with oaks from the 16th century - some of which survive to this day - was enhanced with oaks and chestnuts planted in the 1730s by the eighth Lord Petre, a noted botanist. The Hall we now see, designed by James Paine and completed in 1770, was the home of the Petre family until 1919.
The Team
Report
Our team boasts 3 PGA Professionals underpinned by a very simple ethos - to improve skills and golfing confidence, simultaneously. Despite their golfing successes, our Professionals remain approachable, amenable, affable and affordable. They constantly research technology and hardware to enhance pupils' games and are genuinely thrilled when personal golfing ambitions are achieved.
Captain's Welcome
Report
Janette Leighton and Richard Meaney extend a very warm welcome to Thorndon Park Golf Club. Thorndon Park Golf Club possesses an outstanding Harry Colt designed course, established over one hundred years ago. Each of our 18 holes has been uniquely crafted and maintained to provide you with an equally enjoyable and challenging experience.
Course Tour
Report
A deceptively tricky opening hole. The left-hand bunker is well placed to catch all but the longest drives. Middle to left of the fairway gives the best line into the green, which falls away to the back right. Usually down wind. The bunkers short and to the sides of the green mean that taking the correct club is essential to stay on the green.
Testimonials

The staff were superb and the food went down very well! Everybody enjoyed the course, the weather was lovely and the whole day was a great success. I know these are very testing times for golf clubs and I'd like to thank everyone at Thorndon Park for helping us get the day on much as planned. From Luke in the pro-shop to the lovely ladies serving on the terrace everybody made us feel so welcome.
