Harrogate Aquatic (originally known as Tropica) was set up in 1989 and quickly established itself as a specialist aquatic centre. Since 2001 we have been selling planting equipment and aquarium plants on a nationwide basis. We are based within Moorland Nurseries garden centre between Harrogate and Knaresborough.
Air Pumps
Report
Air pumps are a great way to increase the dissolved oxygen in your aquarium water. They sit outside the tank (in the cabinet underneath or tucked behind it out of sight) and push air through a narrow hose into the water. They can connect to an air stone (a porous block that turns big bubbles into tiny fizzy bubbles) or into an ornament - you can get some really cool ones with parts that move as the bubbles flow through them.

Filters

What is a filter? A filter can be fitted into any aquarium and is essential for keeping the water healthy and keeping your fish alive! It has a built-in pump which circulates and oxygenates the water, collecting all the waste into sponges or 'media' in a compartment inside. You change or clean the media when you do your monthly water change and maintenance.

The secret to success with growing healthy plants in an aquarium is making sure the plants have everything they need. Just like plants in your garden, they need good lighting, regular fertiliser, carbon dioxide and something to grow their roots in. You don't need to splash out (!) on expensive tech - there are lots of ways to keep the costs down and still get great results.
