
Heat pumps collect energy from outside the property and moves it inside for heating, hot water and cooling. I was delighted with Better Planets service from project design to completion. All our projects meet or exceed good industry standards and manufacturer's recommendations and we are accredited under the government's Microgeneration Certification Scheme (MCS) for all types of heat pumps and solar PV installations. The scheme was introduced by the government back in 2009 and Better Planet was one of the first companies to be accredited.

Ground Source Heat Pumps collects thermal energy from the ground to produce hot water for heating and domestic hot water. The ground collector is in the form of horizontal loops, pipework buried in the ground at a depth of 1.2 meters or vertical boreholes with a depth of 80-150 meters.
A system mainly consists of the heat pump unit, a hot water cylinder (connected to the hot water taps), a buffer tank (connected to the heating distribution), expansion vessels and the ground collector.The ground collector consists of the ground loops (horizontal or boreholes) a ground manifold and connecting pipework.

One of Better Planet's specialities is to design and install multi-source heat pump systems. In these systems the energy is collected from the ground in combination with another source. The efficiency of a ground source heat pump depends on the temperature of the heat transfer liquid from the ground.
