Ophthalmoscopy

The ophthalmoscope also examines the optic nerve, commonly known as the blind spot. This is the nerve which transfers the signals from the retina to the brain allowing you to see. The ophthalmoscope can detect many problems with the eye, including a disease called glaucoma, and also problems with the rest of your body such as diabetes and raised blood pressure.
Slit Lamp

It examines the lids and lashes looking for any problems such as styes and conjunctivitis. It examines the clear layer on the front of your eye called the cornea which helps bend the light into your eye. The coloured part of your eye is called the iris and the white part the sclera. The lens in your eye allows you to focus on objects.
Tonometry
Report
This test involves a few small puffs of air in to your eye which allows us to calculate the pressure of the fluid inside your eye. If the pressure gets too high, this can cause glaucoma which can cause damage to the optic nerve and peripheral vision. This disease is often asymptomatic; this is why it is very important to have regular check-ups - especially in patients aged over 40.
