Askrigg
Report
Once a bustling market village of upper Wensleydale, Askrigg still reflects its history with stone flagged pavements leading to a cobbled market place centred by an ancient cross and overlooked by a 13th century church. Compare the white cascades of nearby Mill Gill and Whitfield Gill Force to the local meandering of the river Ure before it too rushes to fall spectacularly at Aysgarth.
Bainbridge
Report
In upper Wensleydale the stately Addlebrough stands flat topped and serene with its high crags dominating the dale and its northern slopes reaching down in a series of diminishing escarpments to embrace the river Ure. On its western flank the lower slopes are steep and almost touch the mirrored steps of the mightier Wether Fell cupping the secret and tranquil valley of Raydale and lake Semerwater.
Hawes
Report
Hawes sits close to the banks of the meandering river Ure, almost at the head of Wensleydale. This town for all seasons is a traditional dales market town, small in size but with a large character. The town has grown and developed over the past 300 years creating narrow wynds and side streets around the market place that are a delight to explore.
West Burton
Report
West Burton, acclaimed by many to be one of the most beautiful villages in England, rests snugly in a deep sheltered valley at the juncture of Walden Dale, Bishopdale and Wensleydale. Nearby, high fell sides rise steeply to form a spectacular setting to this most picturesque of dales villages, and on climbing can give unrivalled panoramas of the surrounding dales and distant views of the Vale of York and North York Moors.
