Explore Industrial Heritage in Halifax
Calderdale Industrial Museum stands as a testament to the rich industrial and social heritage of Calderdale. Established to preserve and share the region's 250-year industrial legacy, the museum is operated almost entirely by dedicated volunteers. Our four-floor exhibition showcases working machinery, historical artefacts, and interactive displays that vividly recreate the Industrial Revolution era. Strategically located in Halifax's cultural quarter, adjacent to key landmarks like the Piece Hall and Eureka children's museum, we offer visitors an immersive experience through guided tours, educational workshops, and hands-on demonstrations. The museum prioritises accessibility, featuring wheelchair access, sensory-friendly resources, and a digital twin for pre-visit planning. Our volunteer team, comprising 70 individuals, maintains and enhances the collection while delivering engaging experiences for all ages. The museum's cafe and shop provide additional visitor amenities, with free entry for accompanied children and concession rates available. Through membership programmes, volunteering opportunities, and public donations, we continue expanding our exhibits and community outreach. Recent projects include restoring historic machinery, creating the 'Fleece to Piece' textile exhibition, and improving accessibility for neurodiverse visitors. As a registered charity, we remain committed to preserving Calderdale's industrial legacy for future generations.

Fantastic museum, a great experience, staff are very helpful and happy to answer questions a about the museum, the industrial revolution. Staff explain and give demonstration on how various equipment work and how process were carried out, I found it to be very interesting and I will visit here again and recommend to others. Also great little cafe with hot/cold drinks & cake/snacks, inside the museum. The Museum is wheelchair accessible.

We were very pleasantly surprised at the variety and number of interesting things to see at this museum. The museum houses an amazing array of authentic, original exhibits from the 1700s onwards, in the subject areas of engines, water wheels, drilling machines, various looms, wire making, tool making, sock making and even a working toffee wrapping machine for Quality Street chocolates. The exhibits are explained and demonstrated by very enthusiastic volunteers with a lot of expert knowledge - several were available to talk to on each floor.

Excellent place to take children to help them learn, my grandson enjoyed this, and went to the industrial weekend so got in for free. Volunteers were great and spent time explaining things to my grandson who enjoyed this.

This museum is a little treasure. Well worth the modest entrance fee. We had the pleasure of spending a couple of hours here. The staff are so enthusiastic and willing to show you the machinery and explain how things work. I would recommend this museum to anyone interested in our industrial past.
