The Shoreham Art Gallery Calendar 2022 is now available at the Gallery and in our online store. Hurry while stock lasts and don't forget we offer free delivery to BN43 addresses! Ceramic artist Chris Hesketh joins us in September. She specialises in ceramic sculptures, and her favourite subjects are birds and other animals.
Chris introduces herself in her profile, where you can also see a few more examples of her work. Tom Aylwin, our guest artist in September, represents a unique and fascinating art discipline: contour boxes. Tom sculpts intricate landscape reliefs in lids of wooden boxes of all shapes and sizes. The sculptures are accurate representations of real scenery (including our beloved South Downs).

What is personal to you about what you create? When I was a child I wanted to be a geologist. As it turns out it's the aesthetic of geology I enjoy. Also most of my meaningful friendships have involved a love of woodwork or making my way up and down hills. What other artists inspire you and why do they give you inspiration?

This hand-made journal/sketch book was crafted in two senses, the hand made paper from India and the hand-felted book cover. They make a brilliant and individually prepared present. The bespoke covers I make at home in West Sussex. Each one is unique. Inspiration for my glass work comes from many sources.

Whether you're after a variation of a piece seen in the gallery or perhaps you have a tree from your garden that you'd like something turned from, she's happy to discuss any ideas you might have. From Life size tigers for London Zoo, public works designed to a brief, private school grounds installations, to smaller more personal projects for clients gardens the Martins have fulfilled several commissions alongside their own creations.
