J. A. Stewart Tree surgery and Woodland management is a small family run business based in East Coker Somerset serving the surrounding areas. The proprietor, John Stewart started his working career volunteering at the Rutland water nature reserve helping to manage habitats and woodlands. This was where he became an arboriculturalist. Now, sixteen years on, and still with a keen interest in conservation our aim is to provide a professional, friendly service to the local community.

Most woodland nowadays has been planted, and because the trees are all of the same age and height, they will all mature at the same time. So unless the area is managed there are no real long term prospects for the woodland. The greatest biodiversity in woodland is where two habitats meet.

We are delighted with the work carried out by John and his team. They managed to remove a large spruce, leaning ash and a dangerous poplar before tackling a weeping willow that had grown too tall - and even managed to install a tyre swing for our boys in the process! We now have a large wood store full of logs all neatly stacked by John and a pile of wood chippings which will come in very useful in the garden.
