The present layout, designed by five times Open Champion, James Braid, provides a real challenge for golfers of all abilities. There are 18 holes over 6,273 yards par 70, SSS 71. Thanks to the chalky subsoil, the course is playable for most of the year and is always dry with fast, true contoured greens.
Our greens staff pride themselves in the way they present the course to ensure it is always in its best possible condition. Putting surfaces are true, quick and with subtle borrows and breaks to negotiate such as the 'hogsback' on the 8th and the 'tumuli' on the 17th. The course never disappoints, with strategically placed greenside and fairway bunkers.

History
Report
As a trial, on a busy Sunday from 2 o'clock to 8 o'clock we employ a uniform policeman to patrol from the 12th green to the 7th green. Golf was first played in Dunstable in 1895. A few enthusiasts, mainly connected with Dunstable School, had their own small private club on a 9-hole course in The Park behind the school.
Captain's Welcome

Situated high on the crest of the Chiltern Hills, 800 feet above sea level, Dunstable Downs Golf Course is laid out on a rolling plateau with views over many counties, from Surrey in the south to Northamptonshire in the north. The Downs is a famous beauty spot and viewpoint to watch the gliders from London Gliding Club.

Safeguarding & Welfare
Report
Safeguarding and welfare is a priority for Dunstable Downs Golf Club. From 2021 it will be a requirement for all golf clubs to hold the SafeGolf accreditation, and we want to be on the front foot in this regard. Not just 'ticking boxes', but actually ensuring that all players understand what they need to do to create a safe and welcoming environment for everyone.
On a spur of the Chilterns
Report
On Sunday afternoon, it is hoped that many golf enthusiasts will find their way to Dunstable Downs Golf Club to watch the match between Stewart Field, the home professional, and Mrs Bolton, Mrs Sheppard and Miss Donald. They will, I hope, be regaled with a sterling experience. Those who have not visited the course before will be quite enthralled at the vista which will be set out before them.
