The Atkinson family can trace its roots back to Cumbria when in 1860, James Atkinson left the family watermill at Little Salkeld, near Penrith, to establish a roofing business in Darlington. The business developed into a slate merchant and then into a builders merchant in the early 1900's.
Today the business is run by the 6th and 7th generation of the Atkinson family, we stock over 25,000 items across our branches, including building and roofing materials, heating and plumbing equipment, timber and joinery products.Our Penrith branch also has a Tool Hire and specialist Flood department.
